The San Martín region is located in the high jungle, where many mountains of rainforest can be found. For this reason, waterfalls and waterfalls abound. Here we recommend the closest and easiest to get to from Tarapoto:
1. Ahuashiyacu
It is the easiest access waterfall, it is about 20 minutes from Tarapoto. From the entrance you walk approximately 15 minutes to get there.
How to get there: Ask the mototaxi / tuk tuk to go to the “Paradero a Yurimaguas” which is in the Shilcayo Band. Don't pay more than S/ 6.00 to get there. Tell them where you want to go so they can drop you off on the road in front of the entrance.
Entrance fee: S/10.00 There is another waterfall a little higher called “Golondrinas”. If you also want to go there you must ask at the entrance and pay an additional ticket.
*We recommend you to go to another waterfall as this one is usually very crowded.
2. Pishurayacu or Carpishuyacu
This waterfall is on the same road as Ahuashiyacu but a little further away (about an hour more). Then you walk 40 minutes to get to the waterfall. There are a couple of super relaxing hot springs.
How to get there: Ask the mototaxi / tuk tuk to go to the “Paradero a Yurimaguas” which is in the Shilcayo Band. Don't pay more than S/ 6.00 to get there. Tell them where you want to go so they can drop you off on the road in front of the entrance.

3. Huacamaillo
The path is a bit more difficult because you have to cross the Cumbaza River 4 times. The water can be waist high or if it has been raining you could even swim across the river. In case there is a lot of rain, it is not advisable to go because the river can grow a lot and the road is blocked. The walk takes about 1 hour and a half.
How to get there: Go to the “Paradero a San Antonio”, which is on Comandante Chirinos street, near the “El Huequito” market. Between 5 - 6 blocks from the hostel. The colectivo costs S / 6.00. It takes about 30 minutes to get to San Antonio de Cumbaza. From there you just have to walk to the entrance of the road.

4. Pucayaquillo
It is located between two towns: Chazuta and Shapaja. You walk about 30 minutes from the entrance. It is preferable that you go on your own because the tours do not leave every day and it is much more expensive.
How to get there: Go to the "Paradero a Chazuta". Ask the bus driver to stop near the entrance that is right next to the road, before reaching Chazuta. It takes about an hour to get there.
